This project draws inspiration from a cherished childhood memory: holding a seashell to my ear and being mesmerized by the soothing, magical echo of the ocean within.When you hold a seashell to your ear and hear a sound reminiscent of the ocean, you're actually experiencing a fascinating acoustic phenomenon rather than listening to the sea itself. This effect, often referred to as "seashell resonance," occurs due to the unique shape and structure of the shell.
A few months ago, I found myself wondering—why hasn’t this serene experience been brought into our modern lives? Around that time, I discovered Loop and was instantly captivated by their innovative approach to sound and ear protection.
Our senses are the conduits through which we connect to the world around us. And when it comes to creating an emotional bond with a space, sound plays a pivotal role in shaping our experience. Loop - Ocean attempts to craft auditory ambience that don’t just function but truly resonate—spaces that make people feel calm, inspired, and connected.
Designed for versatility, this solution is perfect for users who want to filter surrounding noise, stay aware of their environment, and create a serene acoustic ambiance for focused tasks.
How it Works ?
This form of earplugs allows sound waves from ambient noise entering the shell to interact with the air inside, producing reverberations at the cavity's natural frequency resulting in low frequency ambient hum.

Seashells produce the familiar "ocean" sound when held to the ear by capturing and transforming any ambient sound wave into a resonant experience. Their unique internal contours and shapes selectively amplify certain frequencies while attenuating others. This process creates a soothing acoustic effect that mimics the sound of waves. Larger shells, such as conch shells, are especially effective due to their increased internal volume, which enhances the resonance of lower-frequency sounds. The shell's hard, curved surfaces reflect sound waves, allowing even faint environmental noises—like distant traffic, wind, or blood flow—to reverberate inside and be reshaped into the calming "ocean" sound. Essentially, the shell acts as a natural filter and amplifier, turning any sound wave into a tranquil auditory experience.
This phenomenon is closely related to Helmholtz resonance, a principle where a cavity with a specific shape and volume resonates at particular frequencies. In the case of seashells, their hollow, enclosed structure functions as a resonance chamber, much like a Helmholtz resonator. When sound waves enter the shell, they interact with the air inside, causing the cavity to vibrate at its natural frequency. This amplifies certain tones while dampening others, shaping ambient noise into the distinctive sound we hear. The same principle underlies the operation of musical instruments and architectural acoustics, demonstrating the universality of Helmholtz resonance in shaping sound experiences.

The earplug is designed as a two-part assembly that securely interlocks using a flexible snap-fit mechanism. When joined, the components create a toroidal shape, functioning as a Helmholtz resonator.
